John P. Stenbit

John P. Stenbit served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense from 2001-2004, first ASD(C3I), then ASD(NII), as well as the Networks and Information Integration/Department of Defense Chief Information Officer. In 2001, Mr. Stenbit retired as Executive Vice President of TRW where he led all government work except space, lasers, and avionics since 1977. In this position, he handled significant work in satellites, ground stations and mission data processing, ICBMs, BMD, intelligence fusion, nuclear waste disposal, air traffic control, telecommunications, and IT systems. Mr. Stenbit was Principal Deputy Director of Telecommunications and Command and Control Systems, Office of the Secretary of Defense. (1973-1977), an engineer at TRW (1968-1973) and an engineer at Aerospace Corporation (1962-1968). He was also a Fulbright Fellow and Aerospace Corporation Fellow at the Technische Hogeschool, Einhoven, Netherlands.

Currently, Mr. Stenbit is a consultant to and member of the Board of Directors of various information technology companies and government agencies, such as: Defense Science Board, Naval Studies Board, NSA Advisory Board, Technical Advisory Group to NRO, Strategic Advisory Group to STRATCOM, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, MITRE, SMA, Cogent Systems, Viasat, Loral, SI-International, Cryptek, Defense Systems Group, Lockheed Martin, Crossroads, McDonald Bradley and NexQL. Previously, he was a member of R&D Advisory Group for Director FAA, Science and Technology Advisory Group for Director CIA, Advisory group for Director Naval Intelligence and for Director Defense Communications agency, CISCO, Lucent, AETC, Spectrum Equity, Mercator Partners, Groove Systems. Additionally, Mr. Stenbit is a member of professional and scientific honorary societies such as the National Academy of Engineering and Tau Beta Pi.

Mr. Stenbit holds a MS in Electrical Engineering and a BS in Engineering, from the California Institute of Technology. He has been awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for both Outstanding and Exceptional Public Service.
